Due to the upward trend of positive COVID-19 cases and increasing risk of transmission in Alexandria and its surrounding jurisdictions, Alexandria Library will resume its PHASE TWO curbside-only and virtual services until further notice effective Monday, December 7. All branches, except the Law Library, will be closed to the public.
We apologize for any inconvenience library closures might cause, but we thank you for your patience and always appreciate your support.
We know that Alexandria’s library is a valued resource for so many readers and supporters. To that end, we’ll work closely with the Alexandria City government and health department. The Library Board will revisit this decision and will keep you informed of any changes.
Please see the curbside page for details and to make a reservation.

SAMS is a service where you may request specific materials, or a small number of items by topic or genre by telephone or email. This service is available if you are unable to place materials holds online using the Library's catalog or need staff advice on what to borrow next. You may reach out to your local library branch at:

As many of our customers who received temporary cards during the closure still struggle with the need to stay home for their safety, we are extending the temporary cards through March 2021. Those who are able to come to curbside, may have their cards converted to permanent cards.
If you need a library card, you may get one here.
Returned materials will still be quarantined for at least 7 days before being placed back in circulation and removed from your account. No fines will be incurred while the items are in quarantine.
The preferred method for paying fines and fees is via debit/credit cards online.
Checks or money orders may be mailed to the library.
Material donations are not accepted at this time.
Please keep them with you until we can accept them.
If you leave donations at the library, they will not be used and will be thrown away.
