COMPUTERS @ THE LIBRARY

The Library has computers for public use at four locations, with high-speed internet access and Microsoft Office programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and other projects. 

Sign up to use a computer with your library card or get a guest pass from the information desk. 

We offer free WiFi at all branches if you have your own Internet-ready devices.

INTERNET COMPUTERS

Internet computers are available at the following branches:

  • Central - 20 stations
  • Burke - 14 stations
  • Duncan  - 9 stations 
  • Barrett  - 8 stations
  • Law Library - 4 stations

Alexandria Library cardholders may use these computers for up to two hours per day; visitors to the area can use a free guest pass for a computer session.

Internet computers include access to:

  • Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Office 2019 (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Alexandria Library’s eCollection databases and Library Catalog
  • Ancestry Library

These computers can read CDs and DVDs and have USB ports for your flash drive. These computers automatically shut down 15 minutes prior to closing.

 

WORD PROCESSING

Word Processing computers are available at the following branches:

  • Central - 2 stations 
  • Burke - 3 stations 
  • Barrett - 1 station  
  • Duncan - 2 stations

These computers are available to any visitor to the Alexandria Library, and offer access to:

  • Microsoft Office 2019 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher)
  • Alexandria Library’s eCollection databases and Library Catalog

These computers cannot be used to access the internet.  Please bring a flash drive to save your work.

 

 

CATALOG AND DATABASE

Catalog and Database Computers are available at the Central, Burke, Duncan, Barrett and Special Collections branches.

These computers are available to any visitor to the Alexandria Library, and offer access to Alexandria Library’s eCollection databases and Library Catalog.

These computers cannot be used to access the internet.


 

CHILDREN'S

COMPUTERS


Computers are available in the Children’s areas of the Burke, Duncan and Central Branches.

These computers offer a variety of entertaining and educational games.

These computers cannot be used to access the internet.

 

GENEALOGY

A specialized genealogy station is available at the Local History/Special Collections branch. This station includes access to Ancestry Library, Heritage Quest and a number of genealogy resources on CD-ROM.

OTHER

USB FLASH DRIVE AND HEADPHONES
USB Flash Drives are available for purchase at at the Central, Barrett, Duncan and Burke branches at a cost of $7.62 + tax for a total cost of $8.00.

Headphones are available for purchase at the Central, Barrett, Duncan and Burke branches at a cost of $2.86 + tax for a total of $3.00.

SCANNING AND FAXING
Faxing is not offered at Alexandria Library branches at this time.  Scanning can be done and saved to a flash drive or emailed at no charge.
