Parking:  There is no parking lot.  On-street parking  is available at meters and in free spaces with posted time limits.  Meter parking is limited to two hours.

COURTHOUSE SECURITY
NO CELL PHONES

Everyone entering the Courthouse building is required to pass through a metal detector.

Cell phones, cameras and other electronic devices are not allowed in the building, unless you are a Virginia licensed, practicing attorney with a valid bar card and photo ID. 

Small lockers are available to store your cell phone for a $0.25 fee.

 

 

REFERENCE SERVICES

Staff is available to assist users in locating, accessing, and using resources in the collection.

Staff may neither provide legal opinions/advice, assist with filling out legal forms, nor interpret the law/legal materials.

Question regarding interpretation of law or legal materials should be directed to a licensed attorney.

  • Free access to LexisNexis and Westlaw legal databases.
  • Free wireless internet and use of internet computers
  • Microsoft Office Suite at designated workstations
  • Printing and photocopying for 25 cents per page (cash and credit accepted)
  • Access to various electronic legal forms
  • Television with DVD/VCR player rental for trials at the Alexandria City Courthouse ($100 per day)
    • Completed rental agreement and receipt of payment necessary in advance of usage
       


 

PRINT COLLECTION


The Law Library contains a Virginia-specific collection of primary and secondary legal materials, including legal form books; select topic-specific, Maryland, and D.C. secondary resources; federal case law and statutory materials.  Materials in the library are for reference only and do not circulate.

The Law Library recently acquired the Handbook of Virginia Local Government Law. It is available electronically at the Law Library now and in hardback format in 2020.

 


 

INFORMATION PACKETS


The library provides select information packets, which include *samples. The information packets can be purchased and printed at the Alexandria Law Library (with a standard library charge of $0.25 per page) or can be printed from this web site by following the links below.

FIND LOCAL LEGAL REPRESENTATION

 

Alexandria Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service

For customers looking for local legal representation, the Law Library provides access to, and assistance with, applying to the Alexandria Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service. For a fee of $55, paid to the Bar Association, clients receive a referral for a 30-minute appointment with an Alexandria Bar Association attorney who practices in the client’s particular area of need. Appointments are usually scheduled within 1-3 days of the first contact from the client and take place at the attorney's office.
