Do you write haiku? Would you like to write haiku? Whether you are a seasoned poet or new at the art, come join one of the haiku workshops on May 28! Registration is required

Please register and attend one of the two workshops depending on your age group:

🖊️First workshop 1:30pm - 3:00pm for adults and teens, grades 9-12

✏️Second workshop 3:30pm - 4:30pm for students, grades 4-8

Each workshop will be led by haiku poet Abigail Friedman, who will provide some brief context to haiku in Japan, then go over the basics of writing haiku in English. Participants will then write their own haiku and learn useful haiku writing tips. Presented by River’s Edge Yoga in collaboration with the Old Town North Community Partnership, Alexandria Poet Laureate Zeina Azzam, and James M. Duncan Library

Abigail Friedman is an award-winning haiku poet who began composing haiku in Japanese, while living in Japan as a diplomat. She is the author of several haiku-related books and her haiku and writings on haiku have been featured in poetry publications and anthologies around the world. She is a judge for the popular Golden Triangle haiku contest as well as the founder of a haiku group that currently meets in Washington, DC.
