The Future of Virginia's Barrier Coast
Exploring the Costal Geology of the Barrier Islands
Saturday, June 11
11:00am - 12:00pm
James M. Duncan Jr. Branch Library
Beth Patridge Meeting RoomLearn about the many factors impacting the coastal response to climate change with Dr. Christopher J. Hein, Director of the Coastal Geology Lab at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
Winner of the 2022 Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award at The College of William and Mary, Dr. Hein uses a wide range of laboratory and field tools and techniques to study costal geology over timescales ranging from decades to millennia. His primary research focuses on the mainland and barrier islands of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, but Dr. Hein also has active projects studying dune processes in the North Carolina Outer Banks; barrier-island processes in the Gulf of Maine; coastal processes and paleoclimate as recorded in the beach- and foredune-ridge systems of southern Brazil; and marshes processes along much of the US East Coast.
This event is made possible through the generosity of the Friends of Duncan Library.
