Learn about 400 years of Black history in Virginia.

Visit us to explore the traveling exhibit, "Determined," on loan from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, from September 25 through October 25. The exhibit traces four centuries of Black history in Virginia through the stories of extraordinary individuals who fought for equality and, in doing so, helped define our shared American ideals.

The panels will be on display throughout the Barrett Branch Library and can be visited whenever the Library is open.

A complementary slideshow examining the stories of Alexandria's own extraordinary residents who helped shape the City's journey toward equality will be shown alongside the exhibit. This supplemental exhibit was produced by the Library's Local History/Special Collections Branch.
