This event is sponsored by AAUW (American Association of University Women) and the Alexandria Burke Branch Library.
Evelyn Chumbow is the director for the human trafficking legal center. She is a survivor of child labor trafficking, an anti-trafficking activits, and a public speaker who has focused her life's work on ending modern-day slavery. She was brought to the US from Cameroon at the age of nine and forced to cook, clean, and care for her trafficker's children. After enduring years of beating under captivity, she finally escaped, and her trafficker was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Today, she works tirelessly to raise awareness and advocate for other survivors.
Ms. Chumbow will be joined by Erica Reid, Senior Engagement Manager of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center Countering Human Trafficking Blue Campaign Office.
