Join us for a Día de los Muertos inspired craft where you will paint planters to look like the famous sugar skulls, with your own creative spin of course! 🌺💀🌹 For teens, adults, and seniors
A little history: Día de los Muertos is celebrated from October 31 to November 2 every year. The holiday marks a period of celebration and remembrance. During those three days, one symbol is present nearly everywhere you look: a sugar skull!
Sugar skulls (calaveras de azúcar) are made from a white sugar mixture that’s shaped with a skull mold. The skulls are intricately decorated with colorful designs and adornments, and the name of a loved one recently departed is often written on the forehead. They’re left on altars to ancestors as a reminder that someone is thinking of them. Friends and family also gift sugar skulls to their loved ones during the Day of the Dead as a way to show they care.
What will your skull planter creation look like? What significant colors will your choose? Will you stick to more of a classic style of sugar skull painting or put your own creative spin on things? We look forward to seeing your creations! All supplies will be provided by the library.
