The History of Ethiopia

Second FloorDeacon Dawit Muluneh will take us through the rich history of Ethiopia.
Deacon Muluneh, author of Hopeless Romantic: The Untold History of Ethiopia, is a scholar of the historical, political and religous landscape of Ethiopia. He will share with us his research and observations of the culture from ancient times to today.
Deacon Dawit Muluneh is the author of Hopeless Romantic: The Untold History of Ethiopia and I Need Answers. He grew up in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and at age seven, his family immigrated to the US from Ethiopia.
Muluneh graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon completing his education at Virginia Tech, he worked at a patent and trademark office for three years. At age 27, having sold his house and car he traveled to a monastery in Ethiopia - Dabre Libanos - to learn the traditional teachings of the church. Afterward, he was ordained as a deacon in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
After a year and a half, Muluneh returned to the States to study at Catholic University of America, where he earned his M.A. in Ethiopian and Arabic Studies. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in African Studies at Howard University.
