Rewiring America, a climate change nonprofit, will lay out the case for electrification, address common barriers, and explain how the financial incentives of the IRA aim to speed this transition.
Every day, we make choices that affect the health of our environment. But there are several major “kitchen table” decisions—such as what car we buy, how we keep our homes comfortable, how we heat our water, and how we cook our food—with outsize impacts that can last decades. The “electrify everything” strategy aims to help people make the switch from fossil fuel-dependent homes and vehicles to those that run on clean electricity. The strategy is a linchpin of the climate change provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), many of which are now in effect.
The local chapter of Rewiring America will share tools that residents can use to understand what incentives they are eligible for, and how to start planning for their electrification journey.
Bob Soule is a Fairfax County resident who is electrifying his home to cut harmful emissions and save money on monthly utility bills. Last year, Bob and his wife took a six-month, 27,000-mile road trip in an electric vehicle to all 51 National Parks in the Lower 48 states to show that EVs are ready for prime time.
Jamie Manfuso, a Fairfax County resident, heads Rewiring America's DC-area volunteer chapter.
