Art Explorers: Yayoi Kusama is a partnership with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Create art with stickers during any visit to the Barrett branch and enter our drawing to win art prizes!
Visit the Kate Waller Barrett branch this March to participate in Art Explorers and help create a permanent art installation! Visit Mondays from 10AM-2:30PM and Fridays 10AM-5PM to participate.
Artist Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who is famous for making rooms of art - and for covering things in polka dots! One of her famous rooms is called "The Obliteration Room". It starts off as a white living room but art museum visitors cover it in stickers until it's "obliterated" by dots and color. We want your help to create "Obliteration Tables"!
Ask Miss Vanessa for dot stickers when you visit the Barrett branch this March. Put the 5 dot stickers anywhere you like on our white tables. You can ask for more stickers on your next visit and see what progress has been made. We hope our tables will be covered in dots soon - it will be so much fun to have your artwork as a permanent part of the library!
Art Explorers always encourages you to visit our local art museums and explore art in person. Alexandria Library has partnered with the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, a Smithsonian museum of modern and contemporary art on the Washington, DC mall, for this project. We hope you'll visit the Hirshhorn Museum, especially since they will debut their new Yayoi Kusama installation rooms this year. Visit the Hirshhorn Museum in person - check their website for current hours.
Take fact sheets provided by Alexandria Library and the Hirshhorn Museum and enter our Yayoi Kusama Hirshhorn drawing! You could win one of two prizes.
