Join the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia at Duncan Library for a hands-on learning experience and demo on proper pruning practices.
🦋 We will be meeting outside in Duncan Library's Butterfly Garden, located just to the right of the main entrance facing Mount Vernon Community School.
Winter is an excellent time to prune many trees and shrubs! Extension Master Gardeners, Molly Newling and Angela McNamara, explain why and how to prune to remove crossing and rubbing branches, suckers, water sprouts, and damaged wood. They will demonstrate the best practices for reducing shrub size, trimming hedges, and carefully removing larger limbs. The results will be trees and shrubs with healthier and fuller growth, better flowers and fruit, and a more attractive landscape.
Participants should bring their own hand tools and, if possible, watch Molly and Angela's informational recording:
