Episode 4 is part of The American Revolution documentary, a six-part, 12-hour series by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt. Come watch with your neighbors and learn more about how and why the thirteen colonies went to war with the British Empire and created a new nation. Learn about individuals on all sides of the conflict (soldiers, leaders, civilians, Indigenous communities, and more) as the film examines both the ideals and complexities of America’s founding.
Conquer by a Drawn Game (January 1777 - February 1778) shows the influence of Benjamin Franklin as he lobbies the French monarchy for support. The episode also explores the Battle of Trenton, the split in strategy between British commanders Howe and Burgoyne, the loss of Philadelphia to British forces, the adoption of the Articles of Confederation, and the success of General Horatio Gates at the Battle of Saratoga against General Burgoyne.
