Join local Clinical Herbalist, Kay Sidahmed, for an overview of the variety and diversity of herbal medicine traditions in our country, and their role in shaping and sustaining cultural identity
The history and evolution of herbal medicine practices in our country is an equally fascinating and multifaceted story. Rooted in traditions that existed long before the formation of the United States, while also being influenced by the respective circumstances unfolding alongside the country’s historical timeline.
In this presentation, Clinical Herbalist Kay Sidahmed will give an overview of the variety and diversity of traditions, their role in shaping and sustaining cultural identity, from being bare necessities to tools of active resistance. Some specific plant allies will be highlighted as examples of their significance within certain cultures or traditions. Furthermore, some light will be shed on the origin of the present-day distorted dichotomy between modern and herbal medicine which is somewhat unique to the US.
