Join us at Burke branch for a program by Dr. Roger Firestone outlining what astronomy is about and how it is done, starting at the earth's surface and going upward to the furthest reaches mankind has investigated. We will look at equipment that is within the reach of the hobbyist, and resources for amateurs. Dr. Firestone is the Chief Scientist of Smith Information Services.

Flora of Virginia Traveling Exhibit at Burke Branch

The Library of Virginia's traveling "Flora of Virginia" exhibition is coming to the Burke Branch! Join Burke Branch on Thursday, September 8, at 4 p.m. for an event to welcome the exhibit to Northern Virginia. Joslin Gallatin, who serves on the Board for the Flora of Virginia project, will provide opening remarks. Following her remarks , everyone is invited to see a screening of the new movie - Hometown Habitats, stories of Bringing Nature Home. This documentary, produced by The Meadow Project, show how and why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local ecosystems. This event is sponsored by the Virginia Native Plant Society, the VA Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, and the Plant NOVA Natives partnership.
