Alexandria Library Holiday Events 2012 Happy Holidays

 

For the holidays, we've lined up a host of free, festive events.  From gift-making, to handbell and jazz concerts, to poetry readings and seasonal safety tips given by the Police Department, our calendar is joy packed with activities for people of all ages. Join us for our open house holiday feast on December 12 at  6:30 p.m. at Duncan Branch Library, 2501 Commonwealth Ave. 'Tis the season to be an Alexandria Library patron! 


*In observation of the Christmas holiday, all Alexandria Library Branches will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25. For New Years Eve, December 31, all branches will open at 10:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM. All branches will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, in observation of the 2013 new year. 


Meditation @ Burke Branch Library, Saturday, December 8, 11:30 AM

Learn about how to de-stress for the holidays with guided meditation and breathing techniques. Come join us for a FREE workshop!


Holiday Gifts with Shannyn @ Beatley Central Library, Saturday, December 8, 2:00 PM

Make four unique holiday gifts to take home or bring your own projects to finish. There will be a chance to rubber stamp gift tags and make your own gift boxes. Attendance is limited, please call 703-746.1743 to register. Support provided by the Friends of Beatley Central Library. 


Holiday Handbell Concert @ Beatley Central Library, Sunday, December 9, 2:00 PM

Join us for a festive music concert and light refreshments. Performed by Browne Academy. Presented by the Friends of Beatley Central Library. Located in the Large Meeting Room.


Holiday Safety @ Duncan Branch Library, Monday, December 10, 7:00 PM

The Alexandria City Police Department will offer tips and answer questions about how to stay safe during the  holidays.  Join us on Monday, December 10 at 7pm to learn the precautionary steps that you and your loved ones can take for the season.


Holiday Spirit: Storytime for Adults @ Barrett Branch Library, Wednesday, December 12, 2:00 PM

Listening to stories read aloud is a pleasure for listeners of all ages. Join us for a different kind of storytime-- one for adults! We'll be reading Hanukkah Stories, edited by Nancy Rips.

A special music and movement story time treat. No dance shoes required, but come ready to dance! For ages 3 and up.


Holiday Poetry Reading @ Burke Branch Library, Saturday, December 15, 3:00 PM

Kick off the holiday season with a poetry reading for all ages at the Burke Branch!  Librarians will read aloud their favorite holiday verses, old and news.  Bring your favorite poems to recite!
