Digital Bookmobile

Welcome Platform

The Charles E. Beatley Jr., Central Library proudly welcomes a state-of-the art digital bookmobile on Tuesday, September 25 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Members of the community will be able to explore electronic devices and learn how to download free eBooks from Alexandria Library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. Clearly, this isn't your traditional bookmobile, rather it's the cutting-edge Bookmobile 2.0. The 74-foot community-outreach vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, premium sound systems, and features a gadget gallery that includes the Kindle®, iPod® touch, Android™ tablet, NOOK™, Sony® Reader™, BlackBerry®, Windows® Phone, and more.

"Having just celebrated our 75th anniversary as a public library, it is clear that Alexandrians recognize the services we offer," said Rose T. Dawson, Alexandria Library's Director. "The Digital Bookmobile event is an opportunity to allow our traditional and nontraditional users to come out and experience downloading eBooks and audiobooks firsthand. Whether they ask questions, or test drive the electronic devices, we look forward to demonstrating our services."

In addition to discovering the portable devices that are compatible with the Alexandria Library’s download service, visitors will have an opportunity to search the Library’s digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video.
