This exhibit comprises eight panels which tell the story of the 1939 Alexandria Library Sit-In. They were designed to be displayed in order, from left to right, to correctly tell the story. The panel numbers can be found on the corresponding bags. Please ensure the title of the panel and the title on the bag label match when setting up AND disassembling the exhibit.

1. Place the exhibit case flat on the floor. Unfasten the straps and open the case and set aside the padding. There should be padding on both sides of the exhibit. |

2. Each bag contains one exhibit panel, which includes a base and support rod. Remove the panel base and support rod from the bag. The support rod is stored in a pocket sleeve inside the bag. |

3. Assemble the support rod by fitting the two sections together. They should join securely together like a tent pole, forming one long support rod. |

4. Fit the round end of the support rod into the hole on the panel base. Note: we recommend first placing the base in the approximate location where the panels will be displayed so it does not have to be moved once assembled. |

5. Pull the banner up from the base, extending it out until the groove on the top rail (indicated by the orange and white arrow sticker) can be fitted onto the lip at the top of the support rod. |

6. Open the clasp on the top section of the support rod and extend the top section of the rod to the desired height. The rod must be extended to at least the 185 mark. Refasten clasp. Note: if you cannot reach high enough to fully extend the support rod, you may carefully lean the panel toward you to make the fully extended position more accessible. |
Contact the Library Communications Department at least one week before the exhibit is to be returned so we can arrange a shipping pick-up.
