Join us for a talk with Melissa Sevigny, author of one of this year's All Alexandria Reads selections, "Brave the Wild River."

Melissa L. Sevigny is the author of Brave the Wild River (W.W. Norton, 2023), Mythical River (University of Iowa Press, 2016), and Under Desert Skies (University of Arizona Press, 2016). Her writing has appeared in Orion, The Atavist Magazine, River Teeth, City Creatures, Terrain.org, Fourth Genre, Flyway, and elsewhere. She earned a B.S. in Environmental Science & Policy from the University of Arizona and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and Environment from Iowa State University. Her lyrical nonfiction explores the intersections of science, nature, and history, with a focus on the American Southwest.

Brave the Wild River tells the couragous story of two botanists, the expedition leader, a zoologist and their boatmen who travailed the Colorado River in the 1930s, documenting the then unidentified flowers and plants along the demanding waterway that runs through the Grand Canyon.
