Dr. Cabrero's memoir shares her experiences with silence and the sanctuaries and kindred spirits she found in her travels around the world inspired by Vietnamese Peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh.
"Dr. Cabrero's book accompanied by her drawings and photos describes the spiritual encounters she has had with humble-hearted people all over the world..." from the back cover. One chapter explores the meditative quality to be found in everyday life such as drinking tea.
Dr. Magda De La Paz Cabrero was born in Venezuela and raised in Puerto Rico. At 19 she emigrated to the United States and set off on an educational path that led her to receiving a doctoral degree in Education from the University of Maryland. She recently retired from Fairfax County Public Schools. Dr. Cabrera spent much of her life developing programs and advocating for traditionally marginalized youth and drew on these experiences to give presentations in Nepal, Belgium, Mexico and the United States.
She is a member of the Opening Heart Mindfulness Buddhist Community in Washington DC. She seeks to use her art and writings to perpetuate Thich Nhat Hanh's legacy.
