Ryan Reynolds plays a trivial background character inside an online game patterned after Grand Theft Auto, which is to say that violence, high-speed chases, and fantasy weapons are all part of the nonstop action.  His role is bank teller, and his functions are to (a) pick up coffee on the way to work and (b) drop to the floor when the bank is robbed, which happens multiple times each day.  Thanks to a glitch, this ordinarily irrelevant character – known in the game only as Blue Shirt Guy – is able to step out of the background and engage in the mayhem like a player.
