In the 1930s a crusty old hermit leaves his isolated house in the Tennessee forest and comes to town with an odd request:  he wants a funeral, and he’s not inclined to wait until he’s dead to have it.  On the contrary, he wants to stick around and hear what everyone has to say about him.  Those who know him don’t like him, so there’s some doubt about who – if anyone – would attend, but the local mortician is willing to tackle the job.
