Ready your ingredients and get ready to bake along at home! Learn how to make a delicious and festive cookie to give as gifts to loved ones, or to enjoy yourself!

Just in time for your holiday baking and gift-giving, learn how to make Sicilian pasta di mandorla amaretti (naturally gluten-free almond cookies). Alexandria small business owner Amy DuVall of from politics to pastry will bake with you in real time and show you how to make these beautiful and delicious treats step by step, while sharing helpful baking and kitchen tips along the way.

In this class, you get to bake along at home with Amy, who will instruct you live on Zoom. Have the following ingredients ready to go:

300 grams (roughly 2 ½ cups) almond flour
200 grams (roughly 1 ½ cups) powdered sugar plus 1 cup
One lemon
2 eggs
18-20 red glacé (candied) cherries*

*Glace cherries can be found in grocery stores around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but are also available usually on Amazon. Can't find the cherries? No problem! You can substitute whole almonds, cherry jam, or lemon curd in for glace cherries if desired.

You will need the following tools to bake along at home:

2 cookie sheet trays
Parchment paper or non-stick sheet tray liners for cookie sheet trays
One large mixing bowl
One small bowl
Digital scale or measuring cups
Zester/Grater/Microplane
2 tsp cookie scoop/ice scream scoop
Fork and Knife (regular silverware size)
Oven
Oven mits/potholders

A former lawyer and lobbyist, Amy DuVall previously worked as a Culinary Instructor at Sur La Table and owns from politics to pastry in Alexandria, VA, where she specializes in Italian sweets, custom pastries, and baking instruction. Amy loves people, baking, teaching, and making lives a little sweeter, one treat at a time.
