Beth Patridge Meeting Room

Join us for a conversation with Sophia Glock about her YA graphic novels and her journey as a cartoonist.

Sophia Glock is a cartoonist who lives in Virginia. Her new graphic novel, Before We Wake, comes out in February 2026, and her graphic memoir, Passport, was published by Little Brown Young Readers in 2021.

Before We Wake: Haunted by a recurring dream, Alicia borrows a book about lucid dreaming, and soon learns to take control of her sleeping life. She welcomes the arrival of her best friend's boyfriend in her dreamworld, and soon sparks start to fly. But then he admits, when they are both awake, that he remembers everything that happened while they were asleep. Suddenly, Alicia’s dream life has become as complicated as her waking one.

Passport: Young Sophia has lived in so many different countries, she can barely keep count. Stationed now with her family in Central America because of her parents' work, Sophia feels displaced as an American living abroad, when she has hardly spent any of her life in America. Everything changes when she reads a letter she was never meant to see and uncovers her parents' secret. They are not who they say they are. They are working for the CIA. As Sophia tries to make sense of this news, and the web of lies surrounding her, she begins to question everything.
