Celebrate Black History Month by joining us for a discussion of Colson Whitehead's acclaimed novel based on the history of a real reform school in Florida that destroyed the lives of many children.
The story follows Elwood Curtis, a Black teenager wrongly sent to the school, and his friendship with fellow inmate Turner, as they navigate the horrors of the institution, which includes physical and sexual abuse, and confront the stark realities of systemic racism and injustice in the 1960s.
After the discussion, join us for a film screening of the novel on February 27 at 1 PM: https://alexlibraryva.org/event/15639085
