Zombie Outbreak 3-Part Strategy Activity

Uncover what caused a zombie outbreak, develop an emergency plan for the coming invasion, and envision how to recover & protect against future zombie attacks in this fun Climate Prep Week activity.

Caution: The theme and activities in this event series may not be appreciated by children under 12. Contact mzimmerman@alexlibraryva.org for more information.

Outbreak - September 24

There's been an outbreak in the DC Metro Area causing a change in some residents' behaviors and cravings. All of the affected seem to have attended a county fair. Statements have been gathered from friends and family members of people who attended the fair, which will be used to figure out where the virus originated to prevent further spread.

Based on Disease Detectives: Zombie Outbreak created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Disaster - September 25

The number of roaming people in the DMV who've been infected with the zombie virus has grown to emergency proportions and they're headed straight for Alexandria. Thinking as leaders and emergency personnel, participants will develop a plan to keep residents safe. This activity contains descriptions of zombies invasions along with other emergency situations.

Based on the Emergency Response Simulation created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Recovery - September 26

The worst of the zombie attacks have subsided... for now, but the City's been devastated. It's time to rebuild. Participants will identify vital components needed to make a community thrive and devise a system to project against future zombie invasions.

Based on Guide to Expanding Mitigation: Making the Connection to a Zombie Apocalypse produced by Federal Emergency Management Agency.

September 24-30 is Climate Prep Week. As a Climate Resilience Hub, Alexandria Library helps to educate residents about extreme weather preparedness and other impacts of climate change. During this year's Climate Prep Week, we are invited to "reimagine our relationship with the land."
