Jessica Lassetter, Transportation and Environmental Services Stormwater expert, will discuss what the city is doing and what you can do to respond to climate change flooding and protect your property.

Shifting weather patterns due to climate change has increased the frequency and severity of storms in Alexandria. While the City pursues projects to actively manage stormwater, this presentation will cover several topics that focus on helping you to protect your property from future storm events while saving you money.

This session will cover the City’s backflow preventor program cost-share program, the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program (VCAP), and ways to reduce your Stormwater Utility fee, as well as floodproofing, flood insurance, safety, understanding your property’s water flow, etc.

Registration with an email address is required to receive the event link.

Upgraded and Grounded: Community Efficiency and Sufficiency in the Midst of Climate Change is a six-month series dedicated to the discussion of extreme weather’s impact on our lives and the actions we can take to respond with thought and care. This series is made possible by the American Library Association’s Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change grant. A huge thank you goes to our partner, the City of Alexandria Transportation and Environmental Services, especially Sustainability Coordinator Ellen Eggerton and Stormwater Manager Jessica Lassetter, for their assistance in planning and presenting events as part of this series.

Resilient Communities: Libraries Respond to Climate Change is a pilot program of the American Library Association.
