This free program for Women's History Month is presented by the Civil War Defenses of Washington division of the National Park Service.
In a Civil War, where one's appearance and speech did not give away one's loyalty, espionage thrived. Many former slaves and some southern Unionists provided valuable knowledge to Union forces and also the same for Confederate forces. Women spies played a significant role in American's bloodiest conflict. Registration requested.
