In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Alexandria Library Sit-In, the first known sit-in of the civil rights era, the library will screen films that celebrate black history and civil rights.
This film tells the story of Thurgood Marshall, the crusading lawyer who would become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. Rated PG-13.
Join us early at 3:15 for introductory words from Paul Friedman, the grandnephew of Sam Friedman. Sam Friedman is an attorney who was hired by NAACP to work closely with Marshall during the trial portrayed in the film. Mr. Friedman will also stay after the film to answer questions.
