In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Alexandria Library Sit-In, the first known sit-in of the civil rights era, the library will screen films that celebrate black history and civil rights.
"Out of Obscurity" documents a little-known chapter in civil rights history. In 1939, five young men staged what is believed to be the nation's first sit-in at the Alexandria Library to protest the "separate but equal" treatment of African Americans.
