Mary Augusta Thomas, Deputy Director Emerita at Smithsonian Libraries, comes to Duncan Library for a discussion about library materials preservation.
When museums and libraries collect, it’s to save things, maybe forever. All too often, as in The Library Book, we have seen the impossibility of keeping that inherent promise. Why do we continue to build collections? What did we learn from that and other disasters? What is different now 30+ years after the LA public library fire?
Mary Augusta Thomas is the Deputy Director Emerita of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries and Archives.
