Internship Tasks and Responsibilities
The display case just outside Local History/Special Collections reading room was purchased by the Friends of Local History as a tool to highlight the varied holdings. In order to preserve the integrity of the artifacts and to engage the viewer with a new and interesting material, a different exhibit should be available on a regular schedule:
- The intern will develop an exhibit module/template that includes checklists of artifacts/images/documentation to be used in the creation of various and changing exhibits.
- The intern will mount a completed exhibit that narrates the personal/public histories of noteworthy Alexandrians. Reaching back to the city’s origins, the intern will develop a criterion that is inclusive of race, gender, occupation/profession/area of contribution and will then generate a list of candidates subject to the approval of LHSC mentor.
- The intern will develop at least two more exhibit concepts using available LHSC resources (books, maps, manuscripts, vertical files, microfilm).
- The intern will also assist LHSC staff at the reference desk for up to 50% of their weekly hours and will handle reference queries as assigned. The intern is supervised by the Reference Librarian.
