A virtual video program about Ruth Asawa, a famous Japanese American sculptor. Learn about her life and art techniques, then try making her sculptures at home!

Art Explorers is an art history themed story time that is followed by an art project, done in the style of a famous artist or art movement from history.

May's session will cover artist Ruth Asawa and her salt dough sculptures.

Watch our YouTube video on Monday, May 10 to learn the artist's history and to see examples of their work.

Art kits will be available until May 17 while supplies last. Pick up a kit in person or through curbside pickup at the Kate Waller Barrett branch - just put ART EXPLORERS KIT in the description box when you make your appointment.

Kits include non-toxic, washable paint. Please be cautious while transporting your art kit to avoid spills. Kits will also include a Ruth Asawa fact sheet. Adult supervision may be required.

As always, the goal is to explore art and discover new ways of creating it. A perfect end result is never required! The focus is early art appreciation and allowing children to explore their creativity. It's the process, not the product that matters in Art Explorers!

Contact Vanessa Salo at vsalo@alexlibraryva.org or 703.746.1744 with any questions, comments or concerns.
