Join author and syndicated columnist Eric Model as he explores the offbeat, oft overlooked and forgotten – people, places, and events in America.
This presentation will focus on Charles Fletcher Lummis and his 3500 mile transcontinental trek from Cincinnati, Ohio to Los Angeles, California.
Featured prominently in this year’s All Alexandria Reads title, The Library Book, Lummis was a larger than life figure with larger than life aspirations. During his lifetime, he worked tirelessly to make a name for himself; dabbling in photography & architecture, editing magazines and publishing over a dozen books. However, despite his best efforts, he remains largely unknown.
*This Journeys into program is adapted from a national Journeys into Hidden America that Eric founded some 30 years ago. It featured explorations of the offbeat, off the beaten path, overlooked and forgotten – places “beyond the interstate”. Over the years, these journeys have been made available through a book, syndicated column, radio, online services and partnerships with Main Street programs, and major travel & leisure companies. Eric has also worked with communities on how they can make the most of who they are through their own ”smart community narratives”.
