Local author and founder of Inspires, Alysia Dempsey will share her first book, Welcome, and to lead participants in an empathy workshop based on the philosophy and message of her book.
Welcome features immigrant and refugee students from Doris Henderson Newcomers School in Greensboro, NC. What Is Your Story, the accompanying empathy workshop, uses activities and discussion to connect participants with one another across similarities and begin to see differences as opportunities to learn. Copies of Alysia's book, Welcome, will be available for purchase and signing.

Alysia Dempsey believes deeply in the importance of acknowledging every person and giving them a voice. Based on that ideal, she founded Inspires to promote empathy and compassion for others through her global travels and within her local community. Her goal is to further develop Inspires to partner with local and global leaders to strengthen our communities and encourage everyone to have a voice. “There is beauty in the uniqueness of our diversity. Let’s welcome everyone to the table and hear their story.” Alysia self-published her first book Welcome in 2018. What Is Your Story, an empathy workshop was founded to accompany her welcome book which enables our community to come together and discover that we are more alike than different. She plans to publish her next two books Explore and Believe in 2019. She has lived throughout the US and Europe and loves to travel and learn about other cultures with her family.
