Banned Books Week Read Out at the Athenaeum

The Barrett Branch of the Alexandria Library in partnership with the Northern VA Fine Arts Association is hosting a Banned Book Read-Out at the Athenaeum in Old Town at 201 Prince Street on Tuesday September 29 at 7 pm. Join Library Director Rose Dawson and others who will read from banned books. The public is invited to read 3-5 minute selections from banned or challenged books. Join Beatley Central on Tuesday, September 22, starting at 6 p.m. for a special craft supplies swap and craft book sale. Bring in your unwanted arts and crafts supplies and abandoned projects so they can find a new home. Bring your current project and stick around for an extra Handcraft Tuesday program. If you wish, items may be dropped off at the Reference Desk earlu. The craft book sale is sponsored by the Friends of Beatley Central Library. Located in the Large Meeting Room.

Alexandria Library Celebrates Constitution Day and Citizenship Day

The City of Alexandria will hold its annual Citizenship Day celebration on September 17, at 11 a.m., in Market Square (301 King St.) Approximately 100 candidates for citizenship will take the Oath of Allegiance to become U.S. citizens, more than at any previous Citizenship Day event in Alexandria.
