Forty Macy - Civil War Defense Join the National Park Rangers from Civil War Defenses of Washington to talk about Fort Marcy. One of the Civil War Defenses of Washington located on a ridge in Virginia, Fort Marcy was strategically placed near the Leesburg Turnpike and Chain Bridge, a key crossing over the Potomac River. DEMOGRAPHIC HISTORY OF ALEXANDRIA: 1790 to 2010 Join Campbell Gibson, a Senior Demographer retired from the U.S. Census Bureau, as he shows the wealth of information contained in the census about Alexandria's people from 1790 onward. He will discuss population growth, race(including free and slave), place of origin, education, occupation, and income. He will also discuss housing topics such as when buildings were built, units per structure, cooking and heating fuels and other intriguing information available from the U.S. Census. @Special Collections

Family Ties: Remebering WWI Do you have a relative that served in WWI or family memorabilia from living through the war? Make sure your history is saved as part of Alexandria's memory! Bring your heirloom and stories for a history "show-and-tell" co-sponsored by the Alexandria Library and the Office of Historic Alexandria. Oral Historians will be on hand to document the objects and stories as part of the City's oral history archive. See the WWI ommemoration section of www.historicalexandriava.gov for more information.
