English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

The Alexandria Library hosts a number of ESL classes. Classes are held at the Beatley Central Library (5005 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22304) and at the Burke Branch Library (4701 Seminary Road). All classes are free and open to the public. No registration is required.


 Class Descriptions

English Language Workshop (All Levels for English Conversation)
Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:00am to 12:00pm
At the Beatley Central Library in the large meeting room

The "All Levels" morning English conversation classes are taught by volunteers with several years of teaching experience and extensive travel backgrounds. The class is informal, with topics and questions introduced by the instructors. For more information, please call 703-746-1751.

 

ESL Class - Beginning Level (Beginning Level for English Conversation)
Every Monday and Friday, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm
At the Burke Branch Library in the meeting room.

The "Beginning Level" is for beginners in speaking, reading, and writing English. Text materials will be provided in class. For more information, please call 703-746-1771.

 

Let's Talk: An ESL Conversation Class (Intermediate Level for English Conversation)
Every Saturday, from 12:30pm to 2:00pm
At the Beatley Central Library in the Small Conference Room

Participants in the class must have at least an Intermediate understanding of English. Class will be comprised of English enunciation instruction followed by conversation practice. This class is perfect for people who have learned English and are looking for an opportunity to practice it. For more information, please call 703-746-1751.

 

What’s On Your Mind: An ESL Conversation Class (Intermediate Level for English Conversation)
Every Friday, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm
At the Kate Waller Barrett Branch Library  on the second floor

Participants in the class should have at least an Intermediate understanding of English. Class will be comprised of English enunciation instruction followed by conversation practice. This class is perfect for people who have learned English and are looking for an opportunity to practice it. The class is taught by a volunteer who has previously taught ESL classes.
