When museums and libraries collect, it’s to save things, maybe forever. All too often , as in The Library  Book, we have seen the impossibility of keeping that inherent promise. Why do we continue to build collections? What did we learn from that and other disasters?  What is different now 30+ years after the LA County Public Library fire?
